Lately in Uganda

The last few months have looked a lot different than they were supposed to! This was going to be a busy season of school in Uganda, construction projects, several teams and visitors coming to serve, and then our family getting ready to spend a couple of months in Vancouver. 

Although it has been a very different few months, they have been really good! We are so encouraged by all of the staff in Kibaale we get to work with, they have been amazing! Everyone is working around the new rules and restrictions due to the pandemic to make sure the community of Kibaale continues to be helped in every way possible. 

Our kids have also embraced all of these changes really well; they are doing a lot of school, helping out in Kibaale and getting creative with cooking and new activities. 

Early on in the lockdown we had a meeting with the Heads of School to figure out how even if all the students can't come to school we can make sure they are still learning! Education packages with bible studies were put together and have been given out regularly, either the students come to school in small groups or they are delivered to them at home. 

Food delivery! Our social workers are going out every week to check on families and deliver food as needed, we love to help out with this too when we can.

It's really different to see only one or two students at the school at a time these days! 

Our good friends Arthur and Sylvia had to change their wedding to be much smaller, we were honoured to still be a part of it! 

Esther and Isabelle came to stay with us for a week! We often are helping out with one of these sweet girls but having both at the same time was a lot of fun!

Usually there is a daycare for these sweet staff kids but of course that is not happening right now, Mazzy was very happy to help out with entertaining them though.

Betty got a brand new house!!

Uganda has been a lot more strict with their lockdown, we actually aren't even all allowed in one car yet. But if we're going to be stuck somewhere this is a very beautiful place to be! 

"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

Wrapping up 2019

The last couple months have been a nice mix of settling into routine with work and school, hosting a few teams and visitors and spending a lot of time on the new construction projects. 

Esther, Buff and a stray puppy that really wants to be part of the family are the best distraction from homeschool! 

Finn's other distraction is soccer, if he's not doing school he is out on the field. Living on a school campus there is always someone out there kicking the ball around! 

156 visitors came to Kibaale this year, wow!! 

Thank you to everyone who came to work alongside us and the amazing Kibaale staff. 

Our last team of the year was a group from Village Church, Lucas and Kaely sponsor Gilbert and had the chance to meet his whole family and bring them some needed supplies. 

They were in return gifted a pumpkin! 

One of our favourite parts of mudding a new house is meeting the whole community! 

Thank you to the team and our vocational students for your hard work blessing this family with a new house! 

The team made a delicious dinner for some of the staff and their families that they had been working with. 

Natasha, one of our nursery students, came by the social workers office to let them know her grandma who she lives with fell and hurt her hip, since she wouldn't be able to dig in the garden for a few weeks we went to town to stock up on some food and supplies. They are the sweetest family and we love to check in on them so this was a treat for our family.

There has been lots going on the last couple months but one of the most exciting things for Jeff has been all of the construction projects.

Two new dormitories that will allow for 200 more girls at the Timothy Girls School in Masaka. 

In addition to our existing medical clinic will now be an overnight ward and also a maternity clinic. These are huge needs in our community so we are very excited for this health centre expansion.

Roof is on! 

The primary school is getting a full renovation, inside and out. While the kids were still going to school we started working on the outside, a new shed roof and gutter system to catch more water and all new retaining walls. Flooding and erosion are huge problems on this part of the property but these changes should really help.
